The “Yeast Genetics” network was founded in 2024 and brings together scientists who work with yeast model organisms such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe and related species.
The focus is on scientific exchange and networking among research groups that use yeast as model systems for genetic, molecular, and cell biological questions – from gene regulation, chromatin, and genome organization to cell and organelle biology, metabolism, evolution, and intracellular transport. The network also promotes the exchange of information on genetic and methodological approaches , including mutagenesis, genetic screens, and quantitative methods.
A key meeting point for the community is the annual Munich Yeast Meetings , which have been held at the Helmholtz Center Munich since 2019. Since 2025, the GfG has supported the meeting by awarding prizes for posters and short talks.
Furthermore, the network promotes the exchange of information on current publications , methods and protocols , provides space for troubleshooting and the exchange of experiences, and gives an overview of the various Yeast Research Groups .
Membership in the GfG is not required to participate in the network.
